Company Background:

Figura Analytics Limited is a spin out company from Loughborough University. Figura has a patented protected technology that has aspects of hardware and software that allow an electrochemical cell to detect particulates in liquid samples. Figura’s entry market for the application of the technology is in the drinks manufacturing industry. Figura rapidly detects contamination in the drinks samples within an hour and providing analytics like never before to the manufacturers, testers and distributors.  Figura’s technology can be applied to industries that look to analyse liquid samples. The Figura Analyser has been designed and developed to reduce the costs of manufacturing and provide users with a highly sensitive device. Figura is exploring methods in which the Figura Analyser can be completed with the final parts that are required to deliver a high specification product to the drinks industry. Once validated in the drinks industry, the application in healthcare and life sciences would be possible using the same technology.

Ask:

Figura Analytics is looking for a manufacturer that is able to design and develop the final parts of the device that would make the device ready to hit the market, using cost effective methods to meet the demands of the market

Figura is looking for:

  • Integrated enclosure to house the flowcell incorporated in the current prototype design
  • Flowcell manufactured that fits the current prototype design
  • Parts to the flowcell that will improve the sensitivity of the flowcell
  • Providing the pathway for the regulatory approval of the Figura Analyser for UKCA and CE marking

Project Brief:

Figura has designed and developed the Figura Analyser using off the shelf components that are cost effective and have put them together to make up the prototype. Figura have designed a system that can be operated using the hardware controlled by software to allow a user to use the device and move liquid. Figura has gone through several testing phases with multiple partners to understand what the best use of the device would be in the market.

Figura has a current flowcell that is operational within the prototype, however this flowcell is not scalable and the costs of manufacturing are higher than expected. Figura is looking for a manufacturer to help manufacture these flowcells at scale to bring down the unit costs considerably. Figura has been through multiple iterations of the flowcell and the team are aware of what design would work best to fully integrate with the current prototype system of the Figura Analayser. Figura has fixed dimensions and designs that the manufacturers would have to work towards to deliver the flowcell that can be practically operational for the user. Figura is looking to find a manufacturer that can provide this flowcell as a single component that would be easy to scale and bring down the costs. Figura’s designs for the flowcell allow for this task to be broken down into multiple components that can be put together to achieve a scalable flowcell. Figura have discussed with consultants on breaking the flowcells down into parts and this has been tested with current methods, so having a manufacturer onboard will help to achieve this task.

Figura is looking to provide the Figura Analyser ready for the market in 2023 and are looking to validate the technology for UKCA and CE marking. Figura would like to take their prototype through the regulatory standards that are required for a device that would be used in the drinks industry and would ideally like to future proof this regulatory approval for the use in the life sciences industry.

Deliverables

  • Detailed methods of manufacture for the flowcell
  • Roadmap for scalability of the different methods
  • Regulatory approval of the Figura Analyser.

Tenders will be selected based on the main following criteria:

  • Design
  • Understanding the brief
  • Cost
  • Timing
  • Expertise
