Health Innovation East Midlands (HIEM) would like to invite innovators who provide solutions which can positively impact our local surgical pathways (from initial referral to post operative care) to apply to showcase their innovation at our next Surgical Innovation Exchange.
The event will take place virtually on the morning of Thursday 11th April, 10-11:30am, and will allow innovators to present their solution to an audience of NHS colleagues across the region.
We have consulted with patients and stakeholders in the East Midlands to outline the key challenges experienced both working in and navigating through our local surgical pathways. The innovations and innovative solutions that we will be selecting to showcase at this event will directly address these challenges. Presentations from innovators will be followed by a Q&A session with NHS colleagues, and HIEM can help to facilitate connections between NHS colleagues and innovators following the event.
Eligibility criteria
The innovations showcased at the event must tackle one or more of the following themes:
- Enabling patients to be better prepared for their procedure
Identifying those with potential health issues sooner and providing relevant advice and guidance to ensure patients are optimised for surgery and that there is less chance of either complications or cancellations on the day, giving patients the best chance of a faster recovery.
Assist our local organisations in providing care which is tailored to the patient and their unique care and support needs
Including those with learning difficulties, neurodiversity or where English is not their first language. Organisations should be able to consider existing conditions, knowledge and experience to create a person-centred approach to care.
- Enabling better, more detailed communication
Between primary and secondary care providers, both before and after surgery and between departments within an acute hospital setting. Between care providers and patients, ensuring patients are well informed and kept up to date with their treatment plan, so they do not feel like their lives are ‘on hold’ awaiting surgery and they are aware of their care options and how to self-care following discharge.
- Enabling better post-op care
Including informing patients to be able to self-care and providing better guidance to primary and community providers to enable seamless ongoing treatment following discharge.
All innovators must be available to attend remotely between 10-11:30am on Thursday 11th April 2024 and if you are successful in your application, you will be asked to prepare a five minute presentation which will be shared on-screen during the event.
