Tioga Limited, a leading contract electronics manufacturer (CEM) based in Derby, has announced a company-wide initiative to train all people managers and senior leadership team members in mental health awareness.

This progressive move underscores Tioga’s commitment to creating a workplace where team member wellbeing is prioritised and mental health is supported at every level of the organisation.

Since 2022, Tioga Limited has had three fully trained mental health first aiders as part of their FeelWell team. Rebecca Adams (Group HR Director), Shaun Cardwell (Training Manager) and Charlotte Crutcher (Through Hole Operator) have already made a measurable impact, offering essential support and guidance to colleagues requiring additional support or navigating mental health challenges. Building on this foundation, Tioga’s initiative aims to extend this culture of care across the leadership and management teams, equipping them with the tools and understanding to better support team members in their day-to-day roles.

Rebecca Adams, Group HR Director, said: “Mental health challenges affect one in four people in the UK each year. The aim of training our people leaders is to bring awareness and knowledge, and normalise talking about poor mental health; doing this enables us to provide a safe working environment and a support network for our employees, it improves working relationships and trust. We absolutely prioritise our employees’ wellbeing.”

The training sessions include recognising signs and symptoms, interactive team exercises, real case studies, approaching sensitive subjects, how to manage difficult conversations, offered internal support and signposting individuals to external resources. According to MHFA England’s 2024 statistics, organisations that implement mental health training for managers report a 30% reduction in mental health-related absences. MHFA also reported, 52% of employees feel more engaged and productive when their organisation offers mental health resources, such as access to counselling or wellness programmes. Tioga’s initiative aims to address these workplace challenges.

Andy Grimmett, CEO, said: “This investment in mental health awareness training underscores our commitment to caring for our staff, the most valuable assets in our business.  The training delivered by our FeelWell team was first class and we are already working on plans to roll out mental health awareness training to all staff.”

Tioga Limited has long been recognised as a supportive employer, offering flexible working arrangements such as a 4-day working week, wellness programs, and other initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture. This latest step reaffirms the company’s commitment to being a leader in employee care.
