IN-PERSON EVENT: Welcome to the Midlands

Medilink Midlands are hosting a afternoon reception on Monday 3 June at Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery to welcome delegations from overseas, as part of the 4-day Midlands International Showcase Event, which includes the following 4 events:

Day 1:  Welcome to the Midlands
Day 2: Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Global Business Conference
Days 3 & 4: Med-Tech Innovation Expo

This afternoon reception will offer regional and international guests an introduction to the city’s culture and attractions. Plus, the chance to meet and hear from Medilink Midlands, and other key partners from across the med tech ecosystem, introducing the 4-day international showcase, and how to get the most from this event.

A warm welcome is guaranteed, and we look forward to making your visit memorable.

Speaker Profiles:

Professor Martin Levermore

Prof Martin Levermore MBE DL, Chairman, Medilink Midlands
Prof Martin Levermore MBE DL, Vice Chair for Nehemiah United Churches Housing Association (UCHA), CEO of Medical Devices Technology International Ltd (MDTi) and Chair of Medilink Midlands. He is also a Trustee of New Roots Charity and a Director of the Birmingham Commonwealth Association (BCA) as well as Executive Committee Member of the Greater Birmingham Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce. Martin is a Senior Associate of Royal Society of Medicine, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  Martin has been published widely in several academic journals and hold appointments with Birmingham City University (BCU) as Visiting Professor for Health, Education and Life Science and Honorary Consultant for Health Innovations with the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. In December 2021, Martin was appointed a Non Executive Director to the Royal Wolverhampton Hospital Trust.


Nikki Whitfield, Chief Executive Officer, Upperton Pharma Solutions
Nikki has 30 years’ technical and operational leadership experience gained in both Pharmaceutical Companies and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisations. Working across a range of dosage forms with both small molecules and biologics, Nikki has successfully led drug development programmes from early phase pharmaceutical development through to late stage and pre-launch stages covering all aspects of the programmes including technical design, manufacturing, process scale-up, regulatory submission and clinical trial supply. Nikki has previously held senior management and executive roles at a number of emerging biotech, large pharma and CDMOs, providing technical and strategic leadership to ensure exceptional operational delivery of programmes from product concept to approval.


Robert Salt, Managing Director, Salts Healthcare
Robert is the Managing Director of Salts Healthcare, one of the oldest family-owned businesses in the UK. Founded in 1701, Salts Healthcare have been manufacturing in the West Midlands for over 300 years. Salts Healthcare now focus on ostomy related products and services, with presences in over 25 countries around the world.
