Refocus on Recovery 2017 is the largest regular scientific conference in the world on recovery for people with mental health problems. This truly international conference will present world-leading research about how people can live well with illness. Its aims are to advance the field of recovery research and to offer you the opportunity to become part of an international community of influence.

With keynote speakers from across the world:

  • UK (Steve Gillard, Isabella Goldie, Jayasree Kalathil, Anu Singh, Mike Slade)
  • India (Manoj Kumar)
  • Canada (Kwame McKenzie)
  • Germany (Jasna Russo)
  • Norway (Mark Hopfenbeck)

We will also hear from Jenny Edwards (Chief Executive, Mental Health Foundation) and Ruth Hawkins (Chief Executive, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust).

For the three previous London conferences, around 500 people came from 25 countries. This year it’s coming to Nottingham, right in the middle of the country with great road, rail and air links. It will even be opened by the world-famous Sheriff of Nottingham!

It will be a great opportunity for learning and networking. As well as hearing from world-class keynote speakers and a choice of over 100 parallel talks, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the lively creative and social programme, which features exciting opportunities such as the boomwhacker percussion energiser event, a ‘Story Shop’ offering a range of stories from people with lived experience, the Nottingham People’s Choir, the MAD space, a Gala Dinner and lots more.

Main conference themes:

  • Recovery for different groups
  • Prevention of mental ill-health
  • Re-situating recovery
  • Allocating resources

Before the conference, there is also the chance to attend Expert Workshops: Developing a national transformation programme; using co-development techniques to shape digital projects in mental health; Coaching for recovery; drums and spears – decolonising recovery; and building on cultures of peer support. These are held on the morning of 18th September.View the full programme here.
