The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) works in partnership with the NHS to deliver high quality research. Join this webinar to gain an understanding of how the NIHR can support your route to market.

Hosted by the NIHR/CRN, they will cover:

– The role of the NIHR/CRN

– What NIHR can currently offer to companies; Clinical Engagement, Research Funding, Access to the NHS

– Plans for future support/priority areas

– How companies should approach NIHR

– What can Medilink EM and the Academic Health Science Network do to help

This free to attend event is held as part of the INSTILS programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project.  This event is classed as State Aid to participating businesses, the value of which is £127, but is delivered completely free of charge to participants.

Speaker Profiles:

Daniel Kumar, Industry Operations Manager, CRN: East Midlands
Dan has a degree in Business Management Studies and worked for an accountancy firm prior to moving into the NHS in 1996. Currently with over 20 years NHS experience, as a nurse across Malignant Haematology, High Dependency and Coronary Care, Research Nurse, Manager of a Cancer Research Team and then Senior Manager within Research Governance. Dan led on Industry for Trent CLRN since 2011 prior to this post.
As part of the CRNEM leadership team this current role focuses on the development of the commercial research portfolio across all stages of the study lifecycle. This involves a particular focus on recruitment of trials to targets and growth of the sector, working along with SMEs and Medical Technology.


Theo Christie, Business Development Manager (Commercial), CRN National Coordinating Centre
Theo facilitates key discussions between the life sciences industry and the Clinical Research Network and is a point of contact for the life sciences companies engaging with the Clinical Research Network. Theo is able to provide advice to companies on how they are able to tap into the Clinical Research Network study support services to ensure clinical studies are set up efficiently and recruit to time and target.
With a degree in Clinical Sciences, Theo has been with the Clinical Research Network since 2013. Before joining the Business Development and Marketing Team, Theo previously worked within the organisation’s Research Delivery Directorate where he was responsible for supporting interactions between the life sciences industry across 10 therapeutic areas, providing operational support through feasibility, set up and patient recruitment.


Roz Sorrie-Rae, Lead Research Management & Governance Manager, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland Comprehensive Local Research Network
Roz has worked in the NHS for over 28 years in the fields of clinical audit and effectiveness, clinical governance and research. She joined her current role in 2008 and continued in that role when CRN East Midlands was established. From late 2014, she spent a year in Nova Scotia, Canada, and gained an international perspective on health research, having spent her time abroad working in R&D in the Canadian university sector. On her return to the UK, she commenced in the role of HRA Approval Business Lead with the National CRN Coordinating Centre. Alongside this national role, she returned to CRN East Midlands in a senior Research Management & Governance Manager capacity. In November 2016, she took up the role of CRN East Midlands Study Support Service Operations Manager and has in 2020 moved into a Study Support Service Compliance and Assurance Manager role. During her career, Roz has co-authored numerous papers and publications, both as a researcher and subject matter expert, including a chapter on Budget and Funding in An Introduction to Health Services Research (2014; Sage).
