UKRI have published a new funding opportunity (total £16m) for Human Functional Genomics Initiative clusters.

The initiative is led by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and forms part of the Government’s Life Sciences Vision commitment to deliver a UK world class offer on functional genomics.

The expression of interest stage closes on 4 May and the deadline for full applications is 27 July. Eligible researchers are invited to apply and partnerships with industry are encouraged.

Apply for funding to lead a cluster as part of a coordinated Human Functional Genomics Initiative.

You must:

  • be based at an organisation eligible for MRC funding
  • meet individual eligibility requirements

Clusters could include:

  • platforms using existing technologies at scale to interrogate functional readout of genetic variation
  • development of novel tools, technologies and biological models for functional genomics research
  • research focused on the interplay of genetic variance and physiological pathways, organs and systems in both healthy and disease states

The total fund is up to £16 million. MRC will fund up to 80% of the full economic cost (FEC) and funding will last for four years.

MRC will hold a webinar to support potential applicants on stage one (expression of interest), including a Q&A session:
• 26 April 2023 at 2:00 pm UK time. Register for the webinar via Zoom
